Testosterone Enanthate vs Cypionate vs. Propionate vs. Sustanon Steroid Esters Explained

Wow so many testosterones.

What’s up dude,

The different kinds of testosterones can be confusing, i’m going to explain the differences here.

So there is only 1 “Testosterone” it is the molecule made naturally in the human body.  The testicles are continually producing testosterone at a rate of about 7mg-10mg per day.  Testosterone is metabolised (broken down) very quickly by the body and excreted in urine, but since the testicles are continually producing tiny bits of the molecule, our bodies are kept stable with a steady supply of testosterone.

Here’s where the “different kinds of testosterone” come in.

Since testosterone is injectable we have to find someway to keep it’s levels relatively stable in

the body.  Because the body metabolises free testosterone in a matter of hours,  The best way to simulate the bodies’ natural testosterone production would be to administer it around the clock in the form of an I.V. drip.  Since this is impractical we are left to consider alternatives.

“Ester Molecules” are molecules that are attached to testosterone in order to delay it’s release into the blood stream.

Enanthate, Cypionate, and Propionate are all ester molecules.  Sustanon is a combination of several different ester molecules in one bottle.  Testosterone Enanthate vs Cypionate

Testosterone Enanthate is simply the testosterone molecule with the Enanthate ester attached. The Enathate ester has a half life of about 7 days which means it takes the body 7 days to destroy half of the amount of the testosterone injected.  This enables a user to administer a once a week injection and still have high levels of testosterone.

Esterless Testosterone is destroyed within about 4 hours following injection.

So if you had two men injecting testosterone;

one man injected 100mg of testosterone enanthate, while the other man injected 100mg of esterless testosteroneTestosterone Enanthate vs Cypionate

After about 4-8 hours the man who injected esterless testosterone would have zero testosterone remaining in his blood as his body would have already metabolised it all.

On the other hand, the man who injected testosterone enanthate would still have half of the injected testosterone remaining in his blood after 7 days.

Do you see now how esters influence the length of time testosterone or steroid molecules stay in our blood?

Testosterone Enanthate has a half life of about 7 days.

Testosterone Cypionate has a half life of about 6 days.

Testosterone Propionate has a half life of about 2-3 days.

Sustanon contains a combination of testosterone esters and it’s release into the blood stream is much more complex.  This is neither an advantage nor disadvantage.Testosterone Enanthate vs Cypionate

For people who don’t like injections Enanthate or Cypionate is favorable because injecting once or twice a week will yield stable blood testosterone levels.

For people who don’t mind injections and want to “feel” the testosterone working quicker Propionate is a better option.  You have to inject Propionate every day or every other day but the testosterone hits the blood stream quicker resulting in a quicker onset of effects.

If someone for example wanted to do a 6 week steroid cycle Testosterone Propionate would be more effective because it would have a high blood concentration quicker than say Enanthate.Testosterone Enanthate vs Cypionate

If a bodybuilder was doing a normal 16-20 week testosterone cycle then Testosterone Enanthate would be advised as they would almost assuredly get sick of injecting themselves everyday for such a long period of time.
