Recreational Drugs Use in Bodybuilding
Steroids get all the press in stories about drugs bodybuilders use, and while steroids may be extremely interesting, they are by no means the only drugs bodybuilders employ when preparing for a competition.
For Growth and Muscle Retention IFBB Pro Bodybuilders stay on a constant regimen of Steroids, HGH, and Insulin all year round.
When IFBB Pro Bodybuilders start cutting weight for competition is where the drugs can get really interesting as well as downright absurdly abusive.
The first thing that comes to mind is the use of amphetamines. Back in the 60’s and 70’s
amphetamines were commonly prescribed as an anorexic to help housewives decrease their appetite and lose weight. So it was completely logical when bodybuilders from the Golden Era like Arnold started using amphetamines to make cutting body fat and restricting calories more comfortable, as well as increasing intensity of training sessions. Well, now in the 21st century we live in, amphetamines are more widely available than ever, thanks to the pharma companies pushing amphetamine drugs like Adderall, Vyvanse, Ritalin, and Concerta onto ADHD kids and adults who “Have trouble concentrating.”
Personally I speculate that 6x Mr. Olympia Phil Heath is a massive Meth User around the time of the Mr. Olympia competition. Have you seen that mother fucker’s eyes on stage? Dude is fuckin’ ROLLING lmao. Because the level of conditioning, low body fat, and dryness the top guys bring to the stage today is so extreme, it requires abusive behavior to achieve.
A common rumour in the bodybuilding community is of guys sniffing Cocaine Pre Workout. Be
around bodybuilding long enough and you’ll start hearing of guys doing lines of coke out in the parking lot for a massive jolt of pre workout energy and aggression. Then you’ll see these guys come in and train like animals. Unfortunately, this is incredibly stressful for the heart, and most stories you hear of “Bodybuilder in gym parking lot drops dead of steroids” is actually a case of this dude snorted lines of his “Special Creatine” and went and trained his ass off causing his heart to blow the fuck up.
Fitness Model and IFBB Physique competitor Jeff Seid humorously alluded to how common this is in a post he made on facebook. Cocaine is especially popular among those in the “Physique” community, those guys are like frat guys that like to party. IIFYM, Steroids, Cocaine, Molly, Eat Clen and Tren Hard Baby.
Although Fucking Losers like Simeon Panda will try to convince you otherwise, The thing most people don’t realise is that bodybuilding and bodybuilders are not the kind of people who are dead fucking serious all the fucking time and always stick to their diet and never miss a meal. That’s bullshit you’ve been fed. These are guys like Arnold a lot of the time who enjoy having a crazy wild time.
A perfect example of recreational drugs abuse by amateur bodybuilders was seen in Zyzz, causing his death and subsequent meteoric rise to stardom.
Zyzz commonly stated on internet forums that he had done every drug available, sometimes posting webcam videos of himself dancing while coked up, and constantly fantasising about going to festivals and getting Muzzed the fuck out Rolling on MDMA Molly.
All those Australian guys who love to go to the EDM Dance Festivals are big time Molly afficianados. Zyzz was one of the most reckless, and he died in a Thailand sauna of a heart attack with rec. drugs in his system.
Nubain is another famous recreational drugs that made it’s way into bodybuilding. Nubain is an injectable opiate you stick straight into your veins via syringe, bodybuilders already being comfortable with needles are not usually afraid of this.
Nubain was originally brought to the bodybuilding scene in the late 80’s by Dan Duchaine who publicised Nubain’s ability to lower cortisol levels while on a contest prep diet.
Jerry Ward from Bios3 a former Nubain addict on the LA bodybuilding scene did a scathing review of his experience with the drug on his youtube channel.
You can watch Jerry’s video on the article I wrote on him linked above.
Nasser El Sonbaty, One of the champions of Bodybuilding in the ultra competitive 90’s was interview in 2009 and asked to recall what recreational drugs he saw the other pro bodybuilders using at the time.
“Also there is also a thing called nubain. I would say that 80 percent of people in bodybuilding, pros and amateurs, are using or have used nubain in the course of their development. I luckily never used it. I went to use it one year and had someone send me some, but it never arrived – this was at the beginning of the ’90s.
It can help you to train very hard, which I learned through watching others who were using it. Basically you can inject it and you can work twice as hard. Let’s say you are working on your back and doing 20 sets in 45 minutes. You can do 50 or 60 sets and you can do these with biceps and everything else. So it is not only anabolic steroids and synthol, it is also painkillers a lot of people are using.
A lot of bodybuilders here in the U.S. are also using ketamine on a regular basis. They mix ketamine with nubain and take anabolic steroids, take ecstasy and cocaine and then sometimes go with this whole combo and compete with it.”
-Nasser El Sonbaty 2009
Nasser’s revelations are proof of the presence of this type of recreational drugs use, as he was the #2 ranked bodybuilder only trumped by Dorian Yates in ’97 right at the peak of the 90’s era of insane progression in bodybuilding.
What makes us think anything’s different today? What after the 90’s all the bodybuilders just decided to stop using recreational drugs? Not a chance, the same shit is going on today. It’s a bit sick really. Bodybuilding is no place for recreational drug use, it honestly kinda tarnishes the hell out of it.
