An unfortunate truth

By Dan the bodybuilder in Thailand

An unfortunate truth in bodybuilding is that the big guys at the gym, most of them use 2x-3x the “recommended” dosage of steroids.  Using mega doses of steroids comes at severe detriment to a bodybuilders health.  How? Mainly, the inevitable and uncontrollable rise in blood pressure destroying the veins, ateries, and kidneys of the bodybuilder.  High blood pressure does this slowly and insidiously over a long period of time.  Now some may say “If you can’t control blood pressure, then you can just take blood pressure meds.”  Well yes that’s true but this blood pressure thing is only one example of the detrimental things that mega dosing steroids will do to you.

And the stupidest thing?

It isn’t even necessary most of the time.

Most of the time bodybuilders using mega doses of anabolic steroids and other performance enhancing drugs do so out of compulsiveness.

You have to understand, who you are dealing with, let’s talk about a bodybuilders psyche.  It requires a lot of compulsive behavior to be a successful competitive bodybuilder and guys with those kinds of “personality traits” like narcissism and compulsive behavior are present in an extreme and over the top delusion of grandeur type level in many bodybuilders who do competitions.  Bodybuilding competitions are something that appeal to people like this.  Bodybuilding competitions require repetitive detailed behavior to happen over and over again for months leading up to a show to do the diet and training required for a bodybuilder to get ready to step on stage.  Compulsive narcissistic people are naturally good at those traits and therefore thrive at bodybuilding an *individual* sport.

You ever notice a lot of serious bodybuilders are weird?

Back to the steroids,

A lot of serious bodybuilders are using these dosages 2x-3x the amount they feel they actually need.  When asked why, the normal response is something like “as an insurance policy” or “to make sure I don’t miss out on any gains or any tiny competitive edge” and finally, “to make up for any fuckups in my diet or bad training days”.

On the other hand, there are lots of serious bodybuilders and competitors who are MILITANT about their health.  Even though they are IFBB level bodybuilders they still will have good bloodwork while doing their steroid cycles, they monitor everything, and are extremely responsible about the risk they are taking by using performance enhancing drugs.  These type of guys are aware that they are risking their health to some degree by using performance enhancing drugs and steroids but they are accepting that risk and doing everything they can to mitigate it, monitor it, and reduce it to LOW.

So you’ve heard the unfortunate truth in bodybuilding.

You’ve learned about the two types of bodybuilders who use gear.

Now which type of bodybuilder are you going to be?
